What you will explore on your guided dive Curaçao experience:
- Visit sites where turtles are often seen grazing or resting.
- Learn to recognise the different turtle species found around Curaçao.
- Identify subtle signs of turtle health, from stress to certain conditions such as fibropapillomatosis (FP).
- Observe how turtles interact with their environment, from seagrass meadows to the edges of the reef.
- Share your observations during a relaxed post-dive debrief.
Citizen science
We make sure your turtle encounters truly count. As we glide through areas where turtles often graze, we record their location, behaviour, and any signs of health — relaxed movement or possible symptoms of disease (including fibropapillomatosis, FP) — always from a respectful distance (no chasing, no crowding). Want photos? We’ll show you the right, non-intrusive identification angles. No camera? No problem — we can provide one. Or, if you’d rather stay fully in the moment, we’ll handle the photography for you. All collected data is shared directly with Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao (STCC). You’ll also receive a personalised dive report with our observations and photos — and, if you joined us on a boat trip, even hydrophone audio recordings.
guided dive in Curaçao FAQ
How is the guided dive in Curaçao “Turtle Friend” different from a discovery dive?
As certified PADI and SSI divers, we take you beyond standard introductory dive areas. This private exploration allows you to dive longer, manage your dive profile, and access calmer zones where Curaçao’s turtles live and feed in a completely wild and natural way.
What are the benefits of exploring turtles with a private bilingual French or English-speaking guide?
The main advantage of this Guided Dive in Curaçao is the complete absence of rush and large groups. Big dive centers often bring too many divers at once, which can scare or disturb marine life.
With your dedicated instructor (French and English speaking), the dive is scheduled at the best times of day to observe turtle behavior discreetly and maximize your chances of capturing high-quality underwater photos.
Do you feed turtles during the dive to attract them?
Absolutely not. We practice a humble, eco-responsible observational approach to diving in Curaçao. We use no artificial bait. Your private guide, passionate about marine biology, will teach you how to read the environment to spot sea turtles and, if they choose to engage, observe them in the most respectful way possible within their natural habitat.
Can I rent full scuba diving equipment, or bring my own gear?
You have the choice. If you’re travelling light, we provide high-quality, well-maintained scuba equipment. If you bring your own gear, we will set it up and adjust it without any issue. In all cases, site access and private guidance from your bilingual French and English instructor are included in our transparent pricing.
