Dive Guide Curaçao FAQ:
What is the SSI Dive Guide training and who is it really for?
The Dive Guide course is designed to mark a major step forward in your diving practice. Contrary to common belief, this course is not only for those looking to change careers.
It is also ideal for experienced recreational divers who want to develop leadership skills: learning how to plan complex dives, achieve precise navigation on Curaçao’s reefs, and confidently guide a group of friends or family in full autonomy and safety, without relying on a dive center.
Why take your Dive Guide course in a private format with The Little Green Boat?
Because guiding divers is learned in the field, not in books. In a 100% private format, we avoid overbooking. You benefit from exclusive mentorship with Caro or your dedicated instructor.
We thoroughly review your dive briefings, your understanding of currents, and your logistical management from shore diving. This tailored approach allows you to build full confidence in your decision-making, at your own pace.
What real-world opportunities are available after completing this course?
To be fully transparent, if your goal is to build a career and be hired immediately by a dive center in Curaçao or elsewhere, the Dive Guide certification alone is often not sufficient.
Most dive operations look for more complete profiles, at minimum Divemaster-level qualifications (to actively assist with introductory dives and courses), and ideally dive instructors who are able to teach.
The Dive Guide should be seen as a strong technical stepping stone, allowing you to validate your guiding skills before progressing logically toward assistant or instructor levels.
How do the eco-responsible philosophies of Green Fins and Longitude181 apply to this role?
A good dive guide is the first line of defense for ocean protection. As a Green Fins member center, and also aligned with Longitude 181 (the French-speaking equivalent), we teach you how to become a role model underwater.
You will learn how to deliver briefings that raise awareness among divers about marine conservation, how to anticipate buoyancy issues to prevent coral damage, and how to conduct dives in a fully sustainable way.
What are the mandatory prerequisites to start this training?
To begin the SSI Dive Guide course, you must be at least 18 years old and hold an Advanced Adventurer certification (or equivalent) as well as Stress & Rescue.
You must also have up-to-date first aid and oxygen administration training (within the last 24 months).
In terms of experience, a minimum of 40 logged dives is required to start the course, and you will need to reach a total of 60 dives to obtain certification.
How can I best organize my days in Curaçao between my training sessions and the rest of my stay?
