The Hidden Glow Show
Uncover the reef’s hidden nightlife
Advanced
Shore only
What you'll explore
- Slip beneath the surface after nightfall, torch in hand.

- Watch the reef burst into vivid greens, oranges, and pinks — colours invisible by day.
- Drift through Curaçao’s reef at night, as nocturnal marine life emerges.
Citizen science
Night dives reveal what daylight hides. Using fluorescence filters, we observe how corals and marine life respond after dark, offering a snapshot that helps track the long-term health of Curaçao’s reefs. Brief observations of fluorescent corals, nocturnal creatures, and overall reef condition contribute to a broader understanding of a thriving ecosystem. You’ll also receive a personalised dive report with our observations and photos.
FAQ
What’s the difference between fluorescence and bioluminescence?
They’re not the same. Bioluminescence is when organisms like plankton produce their own light. Fluorescence happens when corals and certain creatures absorb blue/UV light from our torches and re-emit it as neon greens, oranges, and reds. That hidden glow is what you’ll see.
Do you need special training to take part in a fluorescent night dive?
No — if you’re an Advanced diver (or equivalent), or currently in training, that’s sufficient. We’ll provide a full briefing before the dive, covering filter use, torch handling, and what to look for underwater.
Will the entire reef glow?
Not exactly — and that’s part of the magic. Some corals and animals burst into colour, while others remain dark. The contrast makes the fluorescent areas even more striking, as if you’re revealing the reef’s hidden secrets.
Is it safe for the reef and marine life?
Yes. The special torches and filters use low-intensity blue light that is harmless to corals, fish, and turtles. It’s similar to a standard dive light, but designed to reveal hidden colours. And thanks to our night-dive best-practice briefing, you’ll leave nothing behind but bubbles.
