What you'll explore
- Descend beyond the shallow reef plateau to explore its deeper terraces.

Citizen science
Diving deeper opens a new chapter in the reef’s story. You’ll notice clear changes in corals, sponges, and marine life compared to shallow areas — clues that help us understand reef health across all depths. Healthy reefs support the entire ecosystem, from turtles grazing near the surface to nocturnal hunters in deeper water. Along the way, we also keep an eye out for turtles moving through the deep reef, as their condition is another valuable indicator of overall health. These observations directly support the work of Reef Renewal Curaçao and Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao, which rely on divers’ observations to monitor marine health around the island. You’ll receive a personalised dive report with our findings and photos — and if you’ve chosen the boat expedition, even underwater audio recordings of the reef via hydrophone.
FAQ
Is it safe to dive deeper?
Absolutely. With an Advanced certification (or as part of your course) and a guide leading the dive, you’ll progress at a relaxed pace. Greater depth means longer safety stops and more frequent air checks — all part of the experience.
How is this different from the classic Reef Scout dive?
This mission takes you deeper, beyond 18 metres, where the reef changes character. You’ll encounter different corals, larger sponges, and fish rarely seen in shallow water, while building confidence at depth.
Will we see different marine life?
Yes — deeper reefs have their own residents. Expect to spot species that favour cooler, darker waters, and occasionally a turtle cruising along the reef wall. It’s the same reef “neighbourhood,” just with a different set of neighbours.
How long is the dive?
Up to one hour underwater, depending on air consumption and conditions. Unhurried and steady — plenty of time to slow down and observe.
